Mud runs this fall

Happy Friday. We’re almost at the weekend. Hope yours will be relaxing. 🙂

Today, mine starts with something sad. My family basset hound, Maggie, is very ill and has to be put down. We weighed the options, and even though it’s expensive, we’re going to have someone come to the house so we can be with her and make her more comfortable.

She is the sweetest thing, and would make the cutest little howls. I really wish I could hear one more, but she’s just too weak and is having a really hard time breathing. If you could send some web-thoughts to her, that would be so amazing and so thoughtful. 🙂

I also wanted to share a gi-normous list of fall mud runs that I compiled for The Arizona Republic. It includes Devil Dash, Terrain Mud Run, Rugged Maniac and much more!

The list can be found here:

They have become such a popular trend in the past few years. Why? Because they’re so much fun! You get to run (fun!), roll around in mud (fun!) and jump, climb and crawl through obstacles and pretend like you’re on “Survivor” (fun!!).

I really recommend that everyone try one. There are so many different kinds of mud races that cater to those who have no fitness experience and those who are extremely competitive. Plus, you get free beer at the end of most of them. 😉 Win, win in my book.

If you’d like an idea of what a mud run is like, check out my reviews below:

The Arizona Republic is actually doing a fun project where we’re coming up with a team of 10 members (5 readers and 5 Republic employees) to train and compete in the Mud, Sweat & Beers 4-mile race on Saturday, Oct. 20 at McDowell Mountain Regional Park.

If you’re not in shape, don’t worry: We’ve lined up free team training sessions with Richelle Melde, owner of Ultimate Body Boot Camp in Scottsdale.

Participants will need to commit to two workouts per week: one strength training and one track workout. The team may also be featured in weekly updates and occasional stories leading up to the race.

Those interested in applying for the team should e-mail name, age, contact information and a paragraph on why they want to participate to me at:

  • ashley.macha@arizonarepublic.com.

The deadline is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug.15. We’ll announce the winners Friday, Aug.24.

Have a lovely weekend!
